Eva Portelance

Hi! I am an Assistant Professor of machine learning in Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal, and by courtesy an Adjunct Professor in Computer Science at Université de Montréal. I am also an IVADO Professor and an associate member of Mila — Québec Artificial Intelligence Institute. My research intersects AI and cognitive science. I study how both humans and machines learn to understand language and reason about complex problems. My Ph.D. was in computational/cognitive linguistics from Stanford University, where I worked with Dan Jurafsky and Mike C. Frank. I completed a postdoc in natural language processing (NLP) at Mila and McGill University with Tim J. O'Donnell and Siva Reddy. I'm an interdisciplinarian at heart with a knack for hard problems!

My pronouns are she/they.
